Cardio has never been an issue for me or my family. I come from a long line of runners. My dad was a speed skater when he was younger, my uncle and my grandfather both ran track and XC. So I just kind of fell into the gene lottery for endurance.
I knew at some point I would eventually plateau in running and it would require more work to get faster. I knew that the next step to becoming a faster runner would to become a stringer runner. The only problem is I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to working out with actual weights. So I began to search out gyms and different programs to help me achieve this goal.
In my search one program continued to keep popping up, CrossFit. I had seen some of my friends doing it and getting some crazy results but It wasn't until a Mandy and another close friend suggested I give it a try, that I truly considered it. So I did some of my own research as Mandy searched for a local gym. Eventually we found one close by that fit our budget and my time schedule and I signed up.
No I won't be going Paleo anytime in the near future as I love my carbs but I will be eating cleaner and adding more protein to my diet. I also won't be hitting the gym 5-6 times a week, some runners do a 2-3 method of 2 days of CF and 3 days of running. I will be doing a slightly modified 3-4 version of 3 CF 4 runs. I want to find a healthy balance between strength and endurance, not sacrifice one for the other.
All this is going to take some trial and error along with some patience. In the end though I believe this will make me a better all around athlete instead of just the specification that I have been doing. In the end only time will tell and I am excited for this new part of my story.
